April 29th 2018
this date will forever etched into my memory as this is the day I competed in my 1st ever Marathon. Not only was it my 1st it was also the First ever Newport Marathon.
A delay of 30 mins at the start was not what I needed as it was very cold waiting, but couldn't be avoided due to the delays at the Park & ride. Hopefully this may be sorted for next year.
The course was along some long long long very long winding country lanes, with such lanes you see the sights and smell the smells of the country side some of which was not very pleasant at all.
We ran through several village's some support here but very little support for miles & miles which made the route lonely at times. But when I passed crowds they were awesome and very encouraging.
Water stations every 3 miles was very welcome and needed. Toilets were in plentiful supply.
The run up to the transporter bridge and back right at the end was a killer.
At the finish I received my medal and love the design, the goody bag was a little disappointing only treat was the shirt, free sample of rehydration drink and a tiny pack of jelly teddy bears. Not what I'd expect after running 26.2 miles.
My overall verdict is Well done Newport you did host a good Marathon. It was a privilege to run you. I can see this event going from strength to strength.
Unsure if I'd run this one again under its current course.
