← Brighton Marathon

This was my first ever Marathon and what a day it was! I loved it and have already signed up for 2019. Course is mainly up and down the seafront with a few extra bits to make up the distance.

Aid stations were frequent and with lots of very helpful volunteers but the people of Brighton also came out in force with numerous unofficial aid stations giving out drinks/sweets along the way.

lots of people will tell you that the section out to the power station is tough with little support but for me this was fine. When this is passed and you get back to the roar of the crowd for the final couple of miles it’s all the sweeter for the contrast!

Everyone I know had 26.4 miles on their watches and not 26.2 so I suspect that the organisers went slightly over after last years was reported as slightly under! My only real gripe was that I arrived at the Park & Ride just before 8am, the queue was huge and it took forever to finally get on a bus and get to the park. We finally arrived just before 9am but this was stress we didn’t need. When we finally were able to get on a bus there were 3 waiting but people were only allowed to get on the first. This delayed things and there were a lot of very anxious runners (the queue was huge at this point so I really hope everyone was able to get to the start on time.) Next year I’ll aim to be on the first bus!

Aprt from the bus, I absolutely loved this race and would recommend it to anyone. I can’t wait to go back next year to try and beat my time.
