← Liverpool Half Marathon

This was only my 2nd HM and convenient for me to get to, so I signed up which was easy. Info from BTR was great, Bib and race infor sent out in plenty of time.

On the morning of the race it was very busy with thousands of runners, but there were plenty of marshalls to help us to locate the toilets, baggage bus etc. Unfortunately I managed to find the longest toilet queue, and so I was late for the start but that was my own fault as there were plenty of toilets!

The course was staffed by lots of marshalls, many of whom were quite vocal and friendly. The water stations were friendly and efficient. Plenty of toilets on route too. The course had a steep road within the 1st mile and then the couple of loops around Sefton Park were a bit steep in places...:) The last 4 miles were along the prom back towards where it started and this was all flat - it got a bit windy at times and the were a couple of areas with cobbles which werent great but most of it was flat and smooth.

The last half mile you could hear the drummers so you knew there wasnt far to go and that gave a slight boost to tired legs! Nice support at the finish funnel (even though I was one of the Slow Runners!)

As I was a Slow Runner, there was only a choice of take it or leave it with the T-shirt sizes, which is a shame as we were asked to specify what size we wanted when we registered. The medal was fabulous, one of my best medals so far. There was a lovely selection of treats that were handed out at the end, that were very much appreciated - a lovely refreshing can of apple drink and a yummy Graze box, amongst others.

I would recommend this race for 2019. There was a problem with the route being altered slightly at the last minute due to roadworks, which meant that the overall race distance was slightly short (less than 400yds) but as I'm not exactly an elite runner, it really didn't particularly affect me...(I still got my PB medal once the timings had been altered accordingly!)
