← The Wolverhampton Trail Half Marathon

This was only the 2nd 'Mash Running' event I'd ever done but just like last year's Rodbaston 10k, my latest race: Wolves And Wombourne Half Marathon was friendly, scenic and great value for money.

Although listed as a Half Marathon the course was nearer 14 miles than a standard Half (13.1 miles). This was a self navigational race where runners competing in teams of 1, 2 or 3 followed a map which was to be downladed prior to the event. I must admit that I had a slight fear of getting lost before race started but in reality the course was fairly easy to navigate. There was an extensive pre race briefing too.

Water stations along the route (2 in total) also had plenty of treats to keep sweet tooothed runners happy. Special mention to the marshals who were vocal & generous with their support.

Safety was key with participents not allowed to compete without passing a kit check: Mobile Phone, Map, Emergency foil blanket.

Although overcast it was a dry day, however the heavy rain earlier that week meant there was plenty of mud & puddles along the route. This added to the fun for me.

Runners headed off in waves along the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal before exiting and heading back at the half way point along a former railway line.

On another day this would be a fast course but the mud and puddles did slow competitors down. This race is about having fun and we certainly did that.

Finishers were rewarded with a lovely solid medal, water and sweets. There were prizes for 'Best Team Name' plus extra prizes for 1st male, female and mixed teams'.

BOTTOM LINE: Mash Running Events are as friendly as they come. This race is scenic and great fun. Highly recommended.
