← Oxford Half Marathon

As my first half marathon I found the registration easy and the instructions for arrival very clear. It seemed quite expensive for the place and then the park & ride ticket on top. The park & ride was great, although it was quite confusing how the tickets worked but once parked up and on board it was easy.

Baggage drop was easy and well organised. Making our way to the starting pens through a narrow gate took a long time and wasn't very well organised in my opinion as no one seemed to know which way they were going and the pacers were pretty hard to find/follow into the pens.

Once we got running the bands along the course were nice to break up the miles and all the marshalls were friendly. I hadn't expected much in terms of local support but I was wrong, even along the quieter stretches along the Marston Road and the residential bit there were people clapping and offering jelly babies. The course is flat, one of the prime reasons I chose it, it's not the most scenic with the section through the park probably being the toughest as it was narrow.

As I crossed the finish line in just over 2 hours it was so busy and we came to a complete stand still as people collected their medals and goodie bags. It was just as busy to get pack into the park to collect your bag and enjoy some well earned food.

The worst bits seemed to be getting in and out of the park but there is nothing much that can be done it is the nature of the City so I would just be a bit more prepared next time in terms of having someone with a hoodie close by to the start anf finish to keep warm.

Overall I would definately consider doing it again.
