An incredible race and its massive! Be prepared for an early start and to sit around at Staten Island for some time. Take lots of clothes to ditch as it can be freezing. Quite a rousing start with the anthem and cannon fire! The Verrazano Bridge is quite something and it’s easy to get carried away and go off a bit quick. The first half is through Brooklyn and Queens, side roads and loads of support. The Queensboro Bridge at 15/16 goes on forever and saps the legs, but with the best views of the Empire State, then you turn onto 1st Ave....the noise is deafening and it is so easy to speed up and get caught up in the party! Don’t...you have a long way to go! 4 more bridges and you’re in the Bronx...the best music ever and a preacher welcoming you to the “Boogie Down”. 5th Ave is an incline, which wasn’t noticeable when walking, and then you’re in the Park with its rolling hills. Cruise along Central Park Sth and you’re there. It is a truly fantastic experience with the best skyline, tonnes of support and noise and a whopper of a medal.
