The inaugural Chester 10k did not disappoint. Chris and Andy have got organising races down to a fine art and anyone who has previously taken part in any of the other races (half, metric and full Marathon) will know what I mean.
The 10k course follows a small portion of the half marathon course from the locally known “crematorium roundabout” down to Mollington village and then back up into the centre of the city. The race started from the Northgate Arena and headed out of the city from Parkgate Road.
The course is mostly flat however with Chester being perched atop a hill the first km is all down and the last 1-2km is a steady climb to the finish; with a steady up and down right at the halfway point.
As always the support from the volunteers who marshall the event and the locals is second to none. Not as many locals out for this as there has been for the half marathon but I’m sure as time goes on that will grow.
There was just 1 water station, just past half way. Energy drinks and more water was handed out at the finish.
The medal and finishers tshirt are very good quality, similar design to the other races and the goody bag at the end was packed with a variety of goodies. Great value for money.
Already looking forward to next year. As with the half this will be a staple fixture of my race calendar.
