← Hertfordshire Half Marathon

A fantastic inaugural event.  Plenty of emails and information leading up to the event.  A word of warning when the race organisers instruct you to turn up early, follow their advice.  There is only one road to the event off the busy A1.  Parking is not an issue if you turn up early but as the race started individuals were still queuing in their cars to enter Knebwoth House.

A very cold day but the organisers laid of ample refreshments in the event village and the bag drop area was inside a barn which was a welcome addition.

At the start of the race you are penned to race pace / timing expectations, a good idea due to the numbers but the posters indicating race timings need to be raised off the ground next year so all runners 10 - 15 deep back can easily see timings for pens.  Despite the minor change required for next year the pens do allow for a easy transition to race pace from the start which was good.

The course is a very hilly up and down route so do not expect a PB on this route.  The route was traffic free and the start and finish legs are in the grounds of the fantastic Knebworth House.  The final 500 meters of the race was punishisng finishing literally up hill...as if there were not enough hills in the race to smash your quads and hamstrings they need to finish on an uphill...

The route is enjoyable with good scenery of the local area and completely traffic free.  There are ample water stations with enough Marshall’s at each handing out bottled water.

The event is good value for money with a good medal and tech t-shirt provided with a goody bag of extras such as cliff bars...

A great event that I recommend and would attend again.
