← Winter Track Marathon

Track Marathon took place at Warrington Victoria Park, over two days, with solo and teams participating. I entered day 2 as a solo marathon runner and to be honest didn't know quite what to expect.

The track marathon is self explainatory - 26.2 miles on a track - thats 105.5 laps. Simple enough but this would be both a mental and physical test.

Registration was simple enough with plenty of pre-race information.

Baggage was very basic. Runners are an honest bunch so it was pretty safe.

Laps were counted using a timing chip which was attatched to the ankle of each runner so at least we didn't have to count the 105 laps!!

There was a computor screen showing how many laps each runner or team had completed.

Running around a track for 4 hours+ might seem like living hell but it depends how you tackle it. My tactic was to switch off and run.

On a positive note, it was flat, there were water stations (which contained water, enegy drinks) and toilets every 800meters.

There was nice sprinkling of support from spectators in main stand.

Runners were kept entertained with music played over PA. All music hasd been selected by runner during registration so we got a nice blend of various musical genres.

Nature of running around any track means running wide adds distance. My marathon was significanty more yhan 26.2miles.

Finishers were rewarded with a superb medal and bottle of beer.

There was also a free post-race massage.

In summary -

There was a good atmosphere. Course is fast & flat with regular water stations and toilets. Good value overall.

The bad side is obviously the monotony of 105 laps. It can be quite draining. If you can cope with this then you've cracked it.

Would I do this race again - Yes I would.
