← The Maverick Exposure Lights Dark Surrey

with this race only being the second night race in the series I had mixed reservations about what to expect. I had received the race entry free as I cheekily mentioned I was their race advert for most of last year. They quickly agreed. The course is known to me as I like in the area. The race HQ was at denbies which had indoor facilities such as toilets along with portaloos outside. The race was run in the dark so head torches a must. We were also given glow sticks which were for the marshals to identify which route you were on. The route was varied with ups and downs, tracks and fields, everything you would want from a trail race. I did the middle route and there was no drink stop which actually wasn't a problem as it was too cold to want to be hanging around. The canicross runners started 10 mins behind but they soon caught up with us. I don't mind dogs in races but on a night race it was a lot harder as you couldn't see the leads and some runners didn't have their sofa under complete control and would shout at us to move instead which became rathe frustrating. The finish was where we started and a nice touch was hay bales and a fire pit to stand around and chat while people drank their beer which they received at the finish line along with their medal. Great race organisers and nothing complicated. Everyone made welcome without the exclusive element you can sometimes get at trail races. Cant wait to see more races in the series
