I did my first Maverick race a few months ago and was then asked if I'd try the Dark Series race. I was a bit apprehensive as the only other race I've done in the dark was more of a "fun run" and I knew this was serious stuff. But my fears were unfounded and this was a really really great race.
Pros
- Well organised start area and race registration
- Toilets in the main building, so proper loos!
- Fire pits to huddle round to keep warm
- Incredibly well signposted route with reflective signs and glow sticks on trees! Marshals are key points when you could go wrong.
- Great medal and a free beer and iced coffee at the end (and dogs get a medal too!)
- Lots and lots of lovely mud! (You definitely need trail shoes for this one).
Cons
- ? (I think this is the first race I've reviewed without a single Con point....!)
Natural beauty and local support are not applicable on a night race - I know the area is beautiful but it was pitch dark!
Overall, a fabulous fabulous race!
