← Thames Meander Autumn

This was my first trail half marathon and I enjoyed it a lot. If you fancy a go at a trail half where there isn't lots of navigation to worry about and it's a friendly field, this is the race for you.

Pros

  • Fabulous medal (although oddly they somehow ran out of ribbons, so mine is more of a metal coaster than a medal at the moment)
  • Easy registration process and number pick up - although the queue for this did become very big as time ticked by.
  • Really excellent aid stations.  Sweets, crisps, water, squash and Tailwind.  The best I've seen anywhere. Staffed by very enthusiastic (especially given the rain!) air and army cadets.
  • Clear signage on the route.
  • Scenic route along the river - we saw a heron! Love herons.

Cons

  • Toilets are my usual bugbear on race reviews, but this was one of the poorest provision of loos I've seen at what was a fairly big race.  Three indoor toilets in the YMCA (Race HQ) which soon ran out of loo roll and/or became blocked, plus 5 portaloos outside.
  • I'm not entirely sure how you run out of ribbons for medals..... surely the two come together?
