what A place to run..
starting in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, next to some workd standard engineering of the electric mountain. The start a short walk from the town of llanberis leading to the first challenge the start and pen-y-pass a 4/5mile climb to 360 meters above sea level.
The views where stunning, once at the top could see down the whole valley to Llyn gwynant and towards beddgelert and onto the second hill of the tough course towards waunfawr. From there it was a steep climb to the height point of 376 Miles and after 21 Miles this wasn’t what I needed.
But what goes up much come down, and down it did with a thud. Once you reach the peak at 24 ish Miles its mostly all down hill. What the organisers forget to mention is that it’s off road, and being advertised as a road race I was completely unprepared for the decent down a grass path which after 800 runners had been thru was more of a mud bath. Coming down the hill I spilled over 3 times badly cutting and grazing my leg. This part of the route is dangerous and am shocked more people Were not injured.
The lack of goodie bad at the finish was also disappointing only a bottle of water, come on in Wales how about a cup of tea and welsh cake for the finishers!?
The support at various locations made the race a fantastic success.. it wouldn’t be this good without the support.
