For me this race was everything the great north Run wasn’t, but could be. The course is flat and fast. It’s not exactly inspiring but as an ex Mancunian I loved seeing places from a different perspective. Logistically i can’t fault it and i have never been to a race where the start feels so relaxed, which really helps with the pre race nerves. If anything it could do with a bit more formality as the unaware could actually miss the start! The pens are clearly marked but with no definable segregation or Marshall’s you can easily move between them which actually is handy if you are running with friends... which we were. The drink stations are plentiful and again well organised. The support is good with a very well supported finishing stretch. The race village is excellent with alcohol free beer, official photographers and an easy to use bag drop. This race will grow in numbers of that I have no doubt so get in early before the red tape sets in. Oh, and the medal and tshirt... very, very nice indeed. This race is one for the diary and ideal for a first time half marathon.
